8. Santa Monica Pier
Heidi Fleiss and friends Dr. Steven Hoefflin and medical reporter Bruce Hensel were taking an after-dinner stroll along the Santa Monica Pier in 1995 when they heard a splash and a yell for help. What they found was a man handcuffed and struggling in the water, a would-be suicide victim who changed his mind. While the Hollywood Madam ran for help, Hoefflin fished the 200-pound victim out of the water with the help of Hensel and harbor police.
