Sure, John Steinbeck’s classic novel has been adapted a few times before -- the most memorable being the 1955 film starring James Dean -- but there’s always room for one more version, especially when directed by John Adams helmer Tom Hooper and Christopher Hampton to write the screenplay. East of Eden, of course, is Steinbeck’s retelling of the Cain and Abel story, set in California's Salinas Valley. I just wonder if they can find the same J.D., “You’re tearing me apart!” intensity in their casting of Cal. Wait, I know the perfect person: James Franco [pictured above AS Dean in the TV movie]!
