Key films--those grossing more than $500,000--took in approximately $88.75 million, down about 13.02 per cent from the comparable weekend last year when key films grossed $102.04 million.
This weekend's key film gross was up about 7.99 percent from $82.19 million for the previous weekend of this year.
Last year, Paramount's opening of What Women Want was first with $33.61 million at 3,012 theaters ($11,160 per theater); and Fox's first week of Dude, Where's My Car was second with $13.85 million at 2,087 theaters ($6,634 per theater). The top two films one year ago grossed $47.4 million. This year, the top two films grossed an ESTIMATED $48.1 million.
