What We Think:Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous sleuth gets a muscular update courtesy of former Madonna beau Guy Ritchie, who you may be surprised to learn is also an accomplished director. Robert Downey Jr. stars as the titular detective, Jude Law plays his loyal sidekick, Watson, and a surprisingly sultry Rachel McAdams portrays Holmes’ feminine foil, Irene.
The film’s plot pits Holmes against Blackwood, an enigmatic adversary whose fiendish machinations threaten to destroy all of England. Though
Sherlock Holmes is a period piece, expect a thoroughly modern array of fistfights, explosions and, according to Downey,
lots and lots of male homoeroticism.
Cool to Know:
The set for Sherlock Holmes' home is the same one used for Sirius Black's home in
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007).
