What We Think:
The legendary James Cameron returns to the director’s chair for this 3-D sci-fi epic, his first feature film since 1997’s Titanic. Terminator Salvation’s Sam Worthington stars as a crippled space marine who goes native after being sent to a distant planet on reconnaissance mission, helping lead the resistance against the invading earthlings.

After almost two years of Avatar hype, it’s still unclear whether the Terminator godfather’s creative mojo remains intact after a lengthy layoff spent producing science documentaries. One thing’s for sure: Cameron’s monumental hubris is as healthy as ever. In a recent New Yorker interview, he referred to his $230 million film as “the most complicated stuff anyone’s ever done.”

Cool to Know:
James Cameron originally attempted to make this film made in 1999, directly after Titanic (1997). Due to special effects, the proposed budget was near $400 million and no studio at the time would fund the film.
