Back Room Edition: March 20th, 2010

Kristen StewartIn a busy week for the ladies, several hot young stars are attached to new projects. Twilight’s Kristen Stewart will reportedly star with Julianne Moore in Backwoods. According to the 411 Showbiz blog, the film will be directed by Moore’s husband, Bart Freundlich and concerns the end of the world. It’s likely to start shooting before the end of the summer. Moore’s latest film, Chloe from Canadian auteur Atom Egoyan, is about to be released and co-stars another up-and-comer, Amanda Seyfried.

Seyfried this week found herself linked to two projects: One a period piece and the other a con-girl story. Alfred Nobbs sees Glenn Close reprise her stage role as a woman who must pass as a man to survive in 19th century Ireland. Seyfried has joined that film along with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Orlando Bloom. Rodrigo Garcia is directing and will start shooting in Dublin in June. On a wholly different bent is Seyfried’s project with director McG which is based on a Rolling Stone article entitled “The Girl Who Conned The Ivy League.” Production Weekly this week tweeted the news that the duo were attached to the film about a young woman who adopted other identities to get into college – including stints at Harvard and Columbia. Chloe Moretz in Kick-Ass

Finally, Chloe Moretz, a girl whose career is beginning to Kick-Ass as it were, will change gears with Martin Scorsese’s “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.” Deadline.com reported this week that Moretz will take the role of one of the young leads in the film which is likely to shoot in Paris this year. Asa Butterfield, from The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, will play the title character while Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Kingsley are in talks with Scorsese to join the film as well. The story comes from Brian Selznick's book about an orphan who lives in the walls of a Paris train station in 1930.
