DO IT TODAY: 'Breaking Bad' DVDs, Season 1

Breaking Bad DVDs, Season 1
(Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009)

It's a Southern thing to say "break bad," and it's used to describe somebody who's taken a turn off the path of the straight and narrow, i.e. when they've gone wrong. In this incredible AMC series, that somebody is, of course, Walter White (Malcolm in the Middle's Bryan Cranston), the high-school chemistry teacher with the bad(ass) gig on the side: He operates a crystal meth lab. Turns out his teaching salary didn't cover his son's cerebral palsy treatments or his own stage-three lung cancer bills. But cooking up meth in the desert while his former student (Aaron Paul) sells it? Things are a little cushy all of sudden. Sometimes there are casualties — it was best to gas those two dealers with phosphine, swear — and it's too bad that Walter's DEA brother-in-law can't figure out who the new kingpin of meth is, but, hey, a father's got priorities. Like orchestrating a big heist in order to get the really, really strong stuff. Refresh yourself with these DVDs and better be ready for season 2, which premieres Mar. 8 (10 PM ET/PT).
