First, he wins a Golden Globe for his gift-to-Mickey-Rourke song, "The Wrestler." Then he performs for free at Barack Obama's Inaugural Ball. Now, with a new CD out today, 2009 is most definitely shaping up to be the year of The Boss. (FYI, he's performing at the Superbowl, too.) Post-recording 2007's Magic, Springsteen couldn't stop it with the genius lyrics, so he kept on. With the E Street Band along for the ride, he'd fashion up a raw tune here, a quickly written song there, and Springsteen hopes that Working on a Dream "has caught the energy of the band fresh off the road from some of the most exciting shows we've ever done." The album echoes the Boss' early obsessions of Roy Orbison and Phil Spector, chockfull of tempo change-ups, endless cello work, and the wailing of harmonicas. In the Deluxe Version, Disc 2 is a 30-minute DVD of behind-the-scenes footage of the making the album. Plus, the aforementioned Globe-winning song for the film The Wrestler is its bonus track.
