Damages Premiere
(Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009)

Oh, Lord, remember that ending? (OK, it's been well over a year since the first season capped off, but we know you remember.) Catty, catty, catty! Tonight's opener picks up immediately where Glenn Close's Patty Hewes offs the fiancé of her former protégé, Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne). The handcuffs are off Ellen, but her revenge cap? Oh, it's on. She's in cahoots with the FBI to shut down Patty (riiiight … ) … while her off-hours are consumed with new addition Timothy Olyphant, her more-than-just-a-friend in grief counseling. Close is bookended with two Oscar winners: Marcia Gay Harden, another corporate bitch, er, client of Patty's, and William Hurt, a scientist from Patty's past. The back-and-forth of the two time frames — the present and six months into the future — isn't changing (woot!), but unlike the season prior, something very big gets resolved midway, offering us, the audience, something to chew on. We like.

YESTERDAY'S DO-IT: Ride the Express! Beware the killer pineapples!
