DO IT TODAY: 'Dollhouse' Premiere

Dollhouse Premiere
(Friday, Feb. 13, 2009)

We can put its cruel delay behind us because, tonight, Joss Whedon finally unveils his new Eliza Dushku-starring series (Fox, 9PM ET/PT). At first, you won't be able to stop yourself from making comparisons to Whedon's beloved predecessors, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, but by pilot's end, you might be thinking: Alias + a memory-wiping machine. Which is not a bad thing. Dushku is Echo (call her an "Active" or a "Doll"), and she lives in a Dollhouse — not a whorehouse, OK? But like a hooker, rich-as-hell clients hire Echo to adopt new personalities and take on tasks like being the perfect date, or the perfect crime investigator, or in tonight's case, the perfect kidnapping-negotiator. In between jobs, Echo's mind is wiped clean, and she lies about in a child-like state. Is that supposed to be a symbol for us, the viewer, as we wait in between episodes for Dushku's pretty little face to captivate us for future Fridays to come? Maybe. Because we hear that she screws her next client and screws him over — and we already can't wait.
