Fame Trailer
(Thursday, June 18, 2009)
Are your jazz hands up? Well, free a digit and click the play button. It's the much anticipated sneak-peek trailer to Fame, the remake of the 1980 favorite. The flick isn't arriving in theaters until Sept. 25, but in just two and a half minutes, you get the feeling it's way more modern than its predecessor (iPod earphones, check; cello player is African-American, check). You might be quick to cast judgment that it's "just like" Save the Last Dance or that recent MTV reality show Taking the Stage, but something tells us it's on par with Rob Marshall's Chicago. It looks expensive, and well, well-made. The struggle and the passion of the artsy hopefuls seems totally believable. The kids are unknowns (we like), and one of the bull-stubborn moms once played the bull-stubborn mother of The Wire's D'Angelo Barksdale. Kelsey Grammer is the one that decides if you're good enough or not — and gosh, did we get butterflies when he said to one fella: "You've got talent. Let's see what we can do with it."YESTERDAY'S DO-IT: It's another Real World/Road Rules reunion!
