DO IT TODAY: 'Rescue Me' Premiere

Rescue Me Premiere
(Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2009)

A year and a half ago, shoot, we'd hardly heard of Barack Obama — let alone what happened in the season 4 finale episode of Rescue Me. But ... perhaps it's better that way. After all, the fourth season is best classified as "sober" (i.e. bo-rrrrrring). And, good news! The fifth season offers a relapse! Yep, following the death of the Gavin patriarch, somebody in the messed-up family nurses the bottle, and let's face it: Rescue Me is at its best when the blood alcohol level is on the up. That other underlying theme — the 9/11 one — also gets punched up, and all kinds of stuff they've never dared to explore gets, well, really explored (conspiracy theories, superbad memories, a shocking tidbit re: Jimmy's death, et al.). This season around, everything's just a lot deeper, and Denis Leary and writer Peter Tolan make the promise that it's the best writing of the series yet.

YESTERDAY'S DO-IT: Spankin' new patients for Dr. Paul Weston!
