Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood Box Set
(Friday, Nov. 14, 2008)

You die for True Blood? Best you read the books first — way better. Alan Ball’s HBO series borrows its blood-sucking plotlines from author Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries, which is a few books ahead of (and arguably far more adult than) that other vampire saga called Twilight. This set includes the first seven books, beginning with Dead Until Dark, where we first meet Sookie Stackhouse, described as curvy and very chesty (Anna Paquin is not, we know this). In the boob-tube version, Sookie seems just another player among many, while the books are very much a personal window into Sookie’s innocence and exploration. The pages detail far more supernatural beings, too; characters like Tara and Jason are small potatoes next to werewolves, were-tigers, witches, fairies, and yes, visiting vampires from faraway.
