Southland, Episode 2
(Thursday, Apr. 16, 2009)
Admittedly, we needed a week to get used to the fact that boy-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks Ryan, aka Mischa Barton's on-and-off-again boyfriend on The O.C., is now reincarnated as a rookie cop (Benjamin McKenzie). From a privileged family. (Shoot, maybe it's Ryan we trust more with wielding a pistol.) But by now, you've seen the pilot, right? "From the producer of ER," it boasts. It's still TBD if its life line will stretch 15 years like the now laid-to-rest doc-drama, but what's certain is: This show is intriguing. How The Unusuals definitely doesn't fill our void left by The Wire, Southland potentially could. It's gritty cop stuff. Not exactly reliant on gore, but things do get graphic. It's everyday cop life, but not necessarily ordinary. Also starring Michael Cudlitz, Regina King, Tom Everett Scott, Michael McGrady, Kevin Alejandro and Shawn Hatosy, it's the second episode — just do it already. Why miss a stray bullet?(10 PM ET/PT)
YESTERDAY'S DO-IT: Who'll cut a bitch? Kathy Griffin, that's who!
