Sunshine Cleaning
(Friday, Mar. 13, 2009)

Forget the fact that's it's brought to you by the Little Miss Sunshine folks; what should really get you giddy is that it stars Amy Adams and Emily Blunt, arguably two of the best supporting actresses ever — the kind that regularly trump the leads (i.e. Adams' Doubt and Blunt's The Devil Wears Prada). And while it may reek of "chick flick," it's definitely got its dark moments. First, Alan Arkin's in it (these days, he wouldn't go near a chick flick), and second, dead people are involved. These two sisters, deeply scarred from their mother's suicide, proudly begin a crime-scene "maid service" and suddenly, they're affecting lives — a good, Sunshine-filled way. Just when it seemed like Adams' Rose was forever stuck having affairs with a married man (Steve Zahn) and Blunt's Norah never bothered to think beyond sharing a roof with her cranky father (Arkin), these girls now have a purpose in life. They wipe blood off walls.
