The Goode Family Premiere
(Wednesday, May 27, 2009)
Sigh. It's hard out here for a pimp Goode. Because every member of the Goode family wants nothing more than to (a.) be socially responsible, (b.) be environmentally aware and (c.) be political correct — and you know it's all in earnest as creator Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Office Space and, um, Beavis and Butt-head) is wont to do. All sorts of awkward/hilarious strife ensues when the Goodes soldier on in this oh-so-offensively-cruel world, all whilst dealing with their own pithy problems like: What should we, the Goodes, call our black neighbor — African-American? And, dagummit, which recycled bags are the most recycled?! By far the biggest concerns for Gerald and Helen Goode — hybrid-driving vegans who live by the WWAGD motto (What Would Al Gore Do?) — are their fellow Goodes: teenage daugher Bliss (who isn't the least bit interested in friending her freak mother; voiced by Linda Cardellini), South-Africa-adopted son Ubuntu (who secretly yearns for blue-collar ways), Charlie (the meat-devouring, SUV-honking Grandpa, woot!) and Che (the family canine forced to lead a vegan lifestyle ... Che so hungry). Ah, finally a show the Obamas can watch together as a loving liberal family.
