His Current Gig: Johnny Quid in Guy Ritchie’s new gangster flick RocknRolla. He’s a strung out rock star who enjoys faking his own death and getting under the skin of his mobster step father Lenny Cole (Tom Wilkinson).
You Know This Face Because … of his Joy Division tribute movie Control. Kebbell proved his chameleon capabilities as the bearded and bespectacled band manager Rob Gretton and the scene-stealing role earned him a British Independent Film Award for his efforts.
Why So Fresh? He’s set for franchise fame as Guy’s latest golden boy (move over Jason Statham) in the upcoming sequel tentatively named The Real RocknRolla centered on Johnny and his rise to the top of the London crime world. Meanwhile he’s working alongside Hollywood hunk Jake Gyllenhaal in the Prince of Persia. If he puts on a few pounds, he just might reach heart throb status himself!
In His Own Words ...
RocknRollas Really Do Exist: "It’s a common term in England in the sense that if you are a RocknRolla you are a bit like Keith Richards or a Rolling Stone or a Beattle. They have a zest for life and take it as far as they can."
He Shed Pounds for the Part: "I starved straight for seven days and then it was a regime to eat one meal a day for the following nine weeks…[I turned to method acting because] I’ve never met a crack head who is weighty, who looks healthy or has any sort of body weight."
Johnny Quid Lives On: "What I hope is that Johnny now takes over the family business. He’s running the London mobster side with a bit more sophistication and a bit more brutality. I think there is nothing to be glorified about criminals, they are animals so it would be nice to get a Guy Ritchie film right down to its bare bones of realism, still making you laugh still shocking you and surprising you and so it would be lovely to be the guy who does that with a Guy Ritchie film."
