Quick Rap with 'American Idol' Castoff Brooke White
Quick Rap with 'American Idol' Castoff Brooke White
By Brian Marder, Hollywood.com Staff
Given how emotional Brooke White was over being eliminated from
American Idol
last week, you might think she was shocked about being voted off, but she had actually "been packed for two weeks." Here’s what the 24-year-old Arizonian had to say about that night and prior to it.
On her emotional elimination:
"I had anticipated it in a strange way--it was in my gut--and I thought I was strong, I really did. I felt so grateful and happy, and then boom, it hit me: This is done, this is over. The finality of that phase of the experience being over was sad… Yes, it was emotional, and I’d hoped so much that I could have been stronger, but I guess I’m just an emotional girl, I’m passionate, and that really came across on the stage, because I felt very vulnerable every time."
On
Simon Cowell
’s assertion that contestants can’t be friends because of the inherent competition:
"I’m not very competitive by nature, and we’re all very different from one another. It’s not as if we had two similar voices, it’s just a matter of what people like… Yes, it’s a show, it’s a competition, but we literally got along better than I think--they always commented on how well they thought we did get along, I think we really related to each other. We were all going through a similar experience that no one could possibly understand."
On her chat with
Carly Simon
, to whom she is often compared:
"She was incredibly supportive, very generous in her comments. It actually really boosted my spirits; it gave me the motivation and hope to keep going in the direction that I am. I do relate to her, and those singer/songwriter’s of the ‘70’s, I connect with what they do, and I hope I can make that happen in 2008, in a more modern [way], somehow incorporate both those sounds."
