Simon Cowell Dishes About Paula, His Top Idol Picks and More

By Emily Christianson, Hollywood.com Staff
The American Idol finale is quickly drawing near and we couldn’t wait to dish with judge Simon Cowell about the remaining four contestants (Syesha Mercado, David Cook, David Archuleta and Jason Castro) Paula Abdul’s latest live show flub, and more.
Here’s what the loose lipped Brit had to say …

Hollywood.com: Paula slipped up last week when she referenced a performance by Jason Castro that she watched during a dress rehearsal. What’s your take on all this?
Simon Cowell: I think that on any live show whether it is Idol or America's Got Talent you embrace things when things go wrong. If it was a prerecorded show none of this would have been shown and it would be a bit boring. There was no conspiracy. I hear all this stuff about ratings – we watch the dress runs occasionally. Sometimes we take note of it sometimes we don’t. She just got a bit confused [laughs].
HW: Do you think an apology is in order?
SC: Well I don’t think it is necessary to be honest with you. I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion it was a live show she made a mistake.
HW: Well, he had to sing a second song after hearing what one of the judges thought about him.
SC: Listen it is a high class problem. He’s singing in front of 25 million people you know. They are lucky to be on the show. You have to look at it in perspective…it is all part of the craziness of this show and the year it becomes normal is probably the year I will leave. Genuinely I like it when it is a bit loopy.
