12 Years a Slave tops Rolling Stone film poll

12 Years A Slave has landed another big Oscar boost a day after filmmaker Steve Mcqueen was named Best Director at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards – it has topped Rolling Stone magazine’s Movie of the Year poll. The hard-hitting drama, which featured Chiwetel Ejiofor as an abducted free New Yorker sold to slavery in 1841, has beaten out Gravity and The Wolf of Wall Street for the top spot.
Before Midnight and Her, which was named The Best Film of 2013 by America’s National Board of Review on Wednesday (04Dec12), round out the top five, while American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Nebraska, Blue Jasmine and Inside Llewyn Davis make it into the top 10.
