21 Savage wants rap veterans to stop judging new artists

Hip-hop newcomer 21 Savage has called on rap veterans to quit criticising the music younger MCs are making, insisting they’re all simply trying to make a living.
The Bank Account star took to Twitter on Tuesday (21Nov17) to share his views on the ongoing disputes between older rap artists and new talents like himself, days after prolific producer Pete Rock hit out at 31-year-old Waka Flocka Flame for declaring himself the Nas or JAY-Z of his generation.
Rock insisted the original rap icons “didn’t experiment with pills or syrup or anything synthetic,” referring to the drugs many younger stars are known to dabble with and rap about in their tunes.
In his rant, 21 Savage insisted chronicling their substance experimentation on song is no different to the drug dealing material artists like JAY-Z, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Jeezy famously rhymed about earlier on in their careers.
“Why do so many of these ‘Og (Original Gangster) Rappers’ judge the new generation?,” he wrote. “They say we make drug user music like making drug selling music is better what’s the difference (sic)?”
The 25-year-old, real name Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, went on to question why older musicians refuse to acknowledge that “rap is the number one genre of music right now”, clearly indicating chart newcomers are doing something right, while insisting their drug use is nothing new to the entertainment industry.
“Artists been snorting cocaine and smoking crack since the 70s and 80s did y’all forget that (sic)?” 21 Savage continued. “Instead of judging how about y’all make a change.
“If the message in the previous generation of rap was so good why did so many of our parents abandon us for crack? Why we still killing each other? Don’t use us as the scape goat! Our music is a reflection of what’s going on in our community and all we doing is using our talent to escape that community (sic).”
