50 Cent closes legal battle with former lawyers after settlement deal

Rapper 50 Cent has officially settled a malpractice suit he filed against his former lawyers after they handed him $14.5 million (GBP11.4 million).
The In Da Club star filed suit against Garvey Schubert Barer after he was ordered to pay bosses at headphone makers Sleek Audio $16 million (GBP12.5 million) over a deal that went sour in 2014.
50 accused his legal representatives of inadequately representing his interests “in licensing negotiations and arbitration disputes” with Sleek Audio executives.
His win was announced in court on Friday (02Dec16), prompting the rap star to post the message, “I just got 14.5 million back from one Law Firm For malpractice. They f**ked up so bad, I don’t think they should be practicing Law” on Instagram.
That post has since been deleted and replaced with a Photoshopped image of 50 Cent sitting on a pile of money, captioned: “I retract my earlier statements about the legal services provided to me by the law firm of Garvey Schubert Barer. The law firm and I have settled our dispute and I consider the issue closed.”
The cash deal will help 50 make a big dent in his Chapter 11 reorganisation plan, which was agreed to in July (16) after he filed for bankruptcy in July, 2015.
Forbes experts estimated at the time he owes over $23 million (GBP18 million) to creditors, including Sleek Audio bosses.
