50 Cent pleads not guilty in domestic violence case

Rapper 50 Cent has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges in a Los Angeles court on Monday (05Aug13). The In Da Club hitmaker was charged with one count of misdemeanour domestic violence and four counts of misdemeanour vandalism stemming from a June (13) incident with model Daphne Joy, who is reportedly the mother of his child.
Joy alleges that the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, kicked her and trashed her house during an argument.
In court on Monday, a judge ordered Jackson to stay away from Joy and hand over his weapons collection, according to TMZ.com. He was also served with more papers, reportedly relating to the case, as he was leaving the courthouse.
Jackson has maintained his innocence.
In a statement to TMZ.com in July (13), his attorney said, “Curtis Jackson denies these allegations as made against him… We have been in contact with the L.A. City Attorney’s Office and are currently conducting our own investigation into these allegations.”
50 Cent is due back in court next month (Sep13) for another hearing. If convicted, he faces up to five years in jail.
