A$AP Rocky’s manager launches petition to free rapper from ‘horrific’ Swedish prison

A$Ap Rocky’s manager is leading an online campaign to have the rapper freed from a Swedish prison, where he has allegedly been forced to deal with “inhumane conditions”.

The Wild for the Night star, real name Rakim Mayers, is being held in police custody with members of his entourage after they were arrested on suspicion of assault in Stockholm on July 2, 2019

Prosecutors were recently granted their request to hold Rocky for up to two weeks while they investigate the street fight he was reportedly involved in, but his manager John Ehmann is calling for his client’s immediate release because the treatment he is facing behind bars is disgraceful.

In a Change.org petition, titled “#JusticeforRocky Demand that Rocky be released by Swedish Officials”, Ehmann explains Rocky’s lawyers filed paperwork in Sweden’s Supreme Court on Monday, July 8, 2019, seeking to have the star freed while the case continues, but their efforts were denied.

Now he argues the issue is simply a matter of human rights.

He writes, “The conditions of the facility are horrific. Some of the inhumane conditions Rocky and his colleagues are facing at the Stockholm Detention Center include 24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human functions, access to palatable and life-sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions.”

He goes on to reveal authorities are planning to apply for another two-week extension to keep Rocky locked up until he can be brought to trial – a motion Ehmann and the rapper’s lawyers are desperate to fight.

He concludes the petition, “Join us in the #JusticeForRocky movement and demand that Rocky be released from Swedish officials immediately.”

The Change.org campaign aimed to gather 150,000 signatures, and had almost reached its target at press time.
