Aaron Sorkin disappears from Hugh Jackman’s Houdini musical

The X-Men star has signed up to play the enigmatic escapologist in a new stage show, which was due to be written by Sorkin, famed for his work on The West Wing, The Social Network and A Few Good Men.

However, Sorkin has now quit the project due to scheduling conflicts as he struggles to juggle Houdini with writing for his hit TV drama The Newsroom and various film scripts.

He says in a statement, “I was really looking forward to returning to Broadway and working with such an incredible team. I am very disappointed my schedule won’t allow that at this time.”

The musical’s producers Scott Sander and David Rockwell add, “Mr. Sorkin’s considerable talents are an asset to any project and we regret that he’s unable to remain with Houdini. However, what Hugh and the creative team continue to create is one of the most exciting projects we’ve ever been a part of. Our projected arrival on Broadway and additional creative team announcement will be made at a future date.”
