Actors, studios close to new contract

A tentative deal between the actors’ unions (SAG/AFTRA) and the studios (AMPTP) is expected to be announced Monday, reports The Los Angeles Times. Negotiators, tired from two days of exhaustive negotiations, broke from talks at 9 p.m. PST Sunday and resumed at 10 a.m. PST Monday. According to the Times, a major stumbling block involving cable TV residuals has been mostly resolved. The actors and unions both seem committed to reaching an agreement and averting a strike. “We want to achieve a contract. We want to keep everyone employed,” AFTRA spokesperson Pamm Fair said.
