Cuban beauty Ana de Armas has been cast as the upcoming Blade Runner sequel’s leading lady.
The Knock Knock actress joins the already star-studded cast of the long-awaited follow-up to the sci-fi thriller, in which Harrison Ford will reprise his role as robot hunter Rick Deckard.
Executives of Alcon Entertainment announced the latest casting news on Thursday (21Apr16), praising de Armas in a statement which reads: “We think Ana is one of the most exciting, up-and-coming international actors in the world today, and we are thrilled she will be playing such an important part in this sequel.”
She joins a cast which also includes Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista.
Blade Runner 2 is the latest high-profile project for De Armas, who can be seen in two films hitting cinemas in August (16) – director Todd Phillips’ action-comedy War Dogs, and boxing drama Hands of Stone with Edgar Ramirez.
De Armas’ casting news comes a day after Alcon bosses announced they were moving the Blade Runner sequel release date up three months – it will now hit U.S. screens on 6 October, 2017.
