Actress Kathleen Crowley dies

Horror movie actress Kathleen Crowley has died, aged 87.
Crowley, who starred in a number of low-budget horror films in the 1950s, passed away at her home in Green Bank, New Jersey on Sunday (23Apr17), her family told The Hollywood Reporter.
In addition to her roles in the ’50s thrillers Target Earth, Curse of the Undead and The Flame Barrier, Crowley frequently landed guest roles in U.S. TV shows.
The actress notably appeared in eight episodes of hit Western show Maverick. She also starred in the 1960s Batman TV series, in which she played Sophia Starr.
Other shows she appeared in include 77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, The Lone Ranger, Rawhide, Bonanza and Family Affair.
Before embarking on her acting career, Crowley finished sixth in the 1949 Miss America beauty pageant.
She left acting in 1970 after starting a family, with one of her final roles coming alongside Robert Redford in the 1969 skiing drama Downhill Racer.
Crowley is survived by her husband John, son Matthew and granddaughter Samantha.
