Actress Verna Bloom dies

Actress Verna Bloom has died at the age of 80.
The actress passed away on Wednesday (09Jan19) in Bar Harbor, Maine due to complications of dementia, her family and representatives confirmed to Variety.com.
Bloom is best known for her appearance in John Landis’ 1978 comedy Animal House, in which she played Marion Wormer, the drunken, debauched wife of the beleaguered Dean.
She is also known for her collaborations with director Martin Scorsese – The Last Temptation of Christ, in which she played Jesus’ mother Mary, After Hours and documentary Street Scenes – and Clint Eastwood films High Plains Drifter and Honkytonk Man.
Her other credits including her 1969 movie debut Medium Cool ,The Hired Hand, TV movies Contract on Cherry Street, opposite Frank Sinatra, and Sarah T. – Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic, and the Broadway revival of Marat/Sade.
Bloom is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jay Cocks, who was Oscar nominated for writing the screenplay to Scorsese films The Age of Innocence and Gangs of New York, and her son Sam.
