Adele open to streaming album in future

Adele is convinced her new album will eventually make it onto streaming services, insisting she’s not trying to take a stand by withholding her music from websites like Spotify.
The Rolling in the Deep superstar hit headlines last Thursday (19Nov15), on the eve of her album 25’s release, when it was revealed her record label representatives had informed bosses at firms like Spotify and Apple Music that the material would not be made available for their Internet streaming services.
“We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify,” a Spotify spokesman said in response to the news. “We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy 25 on Spotify alongside 19 and 21 very soon.”
Adele has now spoken out about the move, insisting she was simply sticking to the same release plan as her previous two albums and wasn’t intentionally trying to shake up the industry.
However, she claims the fans who haven’t already purchased 25 will “probably” get to hear it online in the near future.
“I’m certainly not one for like, spicing things up, I’m just doing what I’ve always done,” she said on U.S. breakfast show Today. “I’ve always done this, and Hello was on there (released to streaming apps) because it’s on radio, so it’s out there… So, probably (it will eventually be released for streaming).”
Adele’s decision to keep 25 off streaming sites emerged almost a year after fellow pop star Taylor Swift cut ties with Spotify and took aim at bosses for failing to properly compensate artists for using their work.
She also took issue with Apple Music officials in June (15), when she penned an open letter about their newly-launched service and why she was withholding her hit album 1989, claiming the company’s initial artist payment terms were “shocking” and “disappointing”.
Bosses had originally planned to keep royalties from any streams during the service’s three-month free trial, but they reversed their policy and agreed to pay during that period after reading Taylor’s letter. She subsequently gave them permission to stream her album.
Adele’s decision hasn’t affected album sales – she has already smashed single-week figures in America by sailing past 2.5 million sales in just days.
