Aidan Turner narrowly escaped concussion while filming Poldark

Aidan Turner narrowly escaped serious injury when he was hit by a freak wave while filming Poldark.
The 33-year-old actor has won legions of fans thanks to his role as Ross Poldark in the period drama, which returns with its second series on Sunday (04Sep16) in the U.K..
Shooting scenes for the upcoming season, Aidan had to film alongside Eleanor Tomlinson in the sea off the coast in Cornwall, England. However, the heartthrob was blindsided when a giant wave came out of the blue and knocked a boat into his head – causing him to drop co-star Eleanor, who plays Demelza in the series, into the surf.
“There’s nothing like the Cornish sea at the height of winter for putting you in your place,” he told the Radio Times magazine: “We were filming me lifting Demelza out of a boat in the actual sea when this huge wave picked up the boat and slammed it into my head.
“I dropped her in the water – not very Ross Poldark! And nobody was coming to see if I’m OK. I was the man injured…”
Aidan wasn’t the only member of the Poldark team injured in the incident though.
“One of the underwater cameramen got cracked as well and he was concussed,” he added. “These waves, you wouldn’t think there’s anything to them, but once you get out there you’re at the mercy of Mother Nature and she doesn’t care how well the previous season rated.”
Playing the hero saw Aidan having to film in the freezing cold winter on the beaches in Cornwall. But while the shooting conditions were less than ideal, the actor did his utmost to stay upbeat on set.
“The lead actors on any show end up setting the energy level, and if somebody is grumpy, it’s hard to get the crew going,” he added. “So no matter how cold it is, you just have to man up and get on with it.”
