Alec Baldwin helped raise $5.1 million for New Jersey Democrats at an event in Collingswood, New Jersey, on Thursday night (01Jun17).
The 30 Rock actor, who has found a new career as Saturday Night Live’s preferred Donald Trump impersonator, was the star guest at a $2,500-a-head fundraiser organized by political action committee, General Majority PAC.
The group has spent millions of dollars backing Democratic candidates in state legislative races. Democrats control both chambers in the Legislature.
According to Philly.com, the event, which was held at the Collingswood Grand Ballroom, was attended by 1,000 people, and Alec helped raise what the organizers believe is the most money ever raised by either major party at one event in the state’s history.
The organization’s treasurer, Tricia Mueller, says the huge deposit into their war chest will put the New Jersey Democrats in a good position to win races across the state.
All 120 seats of the New Jersey Legislature are up for grabs in November, along with the governorship currently held by controversial Republican Gov. Chris Christie.
