Alexander Skarsgard Joins ‘The Little Drummer Girl’ Adaptation

Big Little Lies star Alexander Skarsgard is stepping into the world of espionage for the TV adaptation of John Le Carre’s hit spy novel The Little Drummer Girl.

The actor will join The Falling’s Florence Pugh in the new six-episode series, which will be based in the Middle East in the late 1970s, and centre on a young actress named Charlie as she agrees to help take down a Palestinian terrorist.

Skarsgard will portray Becker, an Israeli intelligence officer who seeks out Charlie’s involvement in the high-stakes plot.

Original Old Boy writer/directer Park Chan-wook is taking charge of the shoot in his TV debut, which will begin production next year (18), and he is excited to land Skarsgard as his leading man.

“To play an enigmatic man who hides his true feelings deep inside, I couldn’t think of a more fitting actor,” said Park. “I believe Skarsgard’s growing depth as a great character actor and his soaring energy will elevate The Little Drummer Girl to a high place.”

The show will be produced by officials at The Ink Factory, the BBC, and AMC – the same group behind the Emmy-winning The Night Manager, which was developed as a mini-series by director Susanne Bier last year (16), and featured Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Olivia Colman.

That was also based on le Carre’s book of the same name.

The Little Drummer Girl, published in 1983, was previously turned into a 1984 movie by filmmaker George Roy Hill, starring Diane Keaton, Yorgo Voyagis, and Klaus Kinski.
