America Ferrera seriously weighing up political career

Actress and activist America Ferrera is seriously considering running for political office because it’s time for women to take the future into their own hands.
The Ugly Betty star has long encouraged fans to become politically active, and since the start of year (18), she has been a leading force in the Time’s Up movement against sexual misconduct, harassment, and inequality in the workplace.
Her continued efforts have prompted some friends and fans to suggest she embark on a career in office.
“This whole (Time’s Up) movement is about the balance of power, and who is represented, and who has a voice, and whose stories get told, and who tells those stories,” the new mum said at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in Beverly Hills, California on Wednesday (10Oct18).
“We can’t just keep saying, ‘Let’s make the world good enough for the people who come behind us.’ We need to step up and take those positions of power.”
America admits taking her passion for politics one step further has been an idea that has weighed heavily on her mind, but she wants her fellow females to also think about taking control of issues close to their hearts, too.
“I think women in particular are afraid to say that because women who have sought power as elected officials have not been treated very well and been called some really ugly names,” America continued. “So we think, if we say we want to run for office, that is going to make us seem like a power-hungry shrew or something.
“So I will say, for the first time, in front of a public audience, sure, I’ve asked myself the question of whether I should be running for office. And I think you should be asking yourself that question, too.”
