“American Idol” Contestant Has a Rap

American Idol finalist Trenyce, whose real name is Lashundra Cobbins,
has a record–and it’s not the musical kind.

According to a report published by the Smoking Gun Web site, Trenyce was arrested in October 1999 on a
felony theft charge in her hometown of Memphis, Tenn. The 22-year-old
unemployed singer spent a year in a Shelby County Criminal Court pre-trial
diversion program and her record was eventually wiped clean by the judge for
good behavior.

The show’s producers insist that Trenyce was up front about
her rap sheet. “It was a minor matter that Trenyce was honest about from the
beginning,” Idol co-executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said in a
statement. “After looking into it, we felt it warranted no concern regarding
her participation in the show.”
