Amy Poehler bigs up female creators at Women in Film awards

Amy Poehler paid tribute to a list of female creators as she accepted an award for entrepreneurship in entertainment in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday (June 12, 2019).

Poehler was honored alongside Issa Rae, Viola Davis, and Crash producer Cathy Schulman at the annual Women in Film Gala in Beverly Hills. And, according to editors at the Associated Press (AP), as she accepted the Entrepreneur in Entertainment Award the star paid tribute to roll call of female creators and female-led TV shows and films, reading off a list of names which included: “A League of Their Own, Patti Smith, Fleabag, The Virgin Suicides, Judge Judy, U.S. Women’s Soccer, American Psycho, Russian Doll, Dolly Parton.”

The Parks and Recreation actress continued listing the women creators and their productions for two and a half minutes.

“Thank you, thank you,” said Poehler, who herself has executive produced shows including Welcome to Sweden, Broad City, Difficult People, and Russian Doll.

The 47-year-old was followed by Insecure creator Rae, who took inspiration from her hip-hop idols and decided to deliberately subvert the convention of women being humble as she became the inaugural recipient of the Emerging Entrepreneur Award.

“You future h*es need to bow down,” she quipped. “Entrepreneur means I did that s**t by myself.”

Meanwhile, actress Davis praised Schulman, a former Women in Film board president, who was recognized for her advocacy in entertainment.

“In a world that has a bad habit of erasing us girls… we need champions like Cathy,” she gushed.
