Angela Merkel injured during skiing trip

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has suffered a fractured pelvis in a skiing accident in Switzerland. The 59-year-old leader was skiing in the Swiss region of Engadin, near top resort St. Moritz, over the Christmas (13) holidays when the accident occurred.
She has been ordered to rest over the next three weeks and has cancelled a number of official appointments while continuing her work from home.
Her spokesman, Steffen Seibert, says, “It goes without saying that as chancellor, she is capable of acting as well as communicating fully.”
Merkel’s skiing accident happened around the same time her fellow countryman, Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, was left in a coma after hitting his head on a rock on the slopes in Meribel, France. He remains in a critical condition.
