Annie Lennox has added her tribute to Dolores O’Riordan after learning of The Cranberries singer’s death on Monday (15Jan18).
The Irish star was found dead in a London hotel room and many celebrities joined Ireland’s leader President Michael D. Higgins in saluting the tragic Linger singer, and now Lennox and R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe have added their tributes.
Lennox describes O’Riordan as a “unique artist, singer-songwriter, musician and performer” in an Instagram post, alongside a photo of the late star.
“Truly saddened and shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Dolores O’Riordan,” the former Eurythmics star adds.
Stipe tweets: “We are all saddened to hear the news. Dolores was a brilliant & generous spirit w/ (with) a quick humor & a stunning voice. Our love to the band & to her family & fans.”
The Corrs stars Jim and Andrea Corr have also added their thoughts, while heavy rockers Bad Wolves, who were working with Dolores on a cover of The Cranberries’ Zombie when she died, have posted a message on Facebook, stating they are “shocked and saddened” by the news.
Police in London are still investigating the singer’s “unexplained” death, but they are not treating it as suspicious.
Meanwhile, fans have flocked to the singer’s native Limerick to pay tribute to her and to sign a book of condolence opened for The Cranberries singer at the County Council’s Corporate Headquarters at Merchant’s Quay in Limerick City.
