Anthony Mackie lobbied Marvel bosses for superhero role for years

Actor Anthony Mackie jumped at the chance to star in the new Captain America sequel after bombarding Marvel film executives with phone calls and letters to campaign for a role in a superhero franchise. The Hurt Locker star reveals he had been lobbying for a job in a comic book movie adaptation since the success of Iron Man in 2008, and his hard work paid off when studio bosses offered him the part of Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
He tells the New York Daily News, “We would call and write letters after The Hurt Locker, saying we would love to be a part of the Marvel Universe.
“I thought it was a no-brainer for there to be a black superhero movie in the time of superhero movies. And it got to the point where we harassed them so much, they went, ‘Don’t call us anymore, we’ll call you.'”
