Anthony Mackie still on board Hendrix biopic

Captain America’s new movie sidekick Anthony Mackie is set to take Andre 3000 on at the box office after re-signing to play Jimi Hendrix in a new biopic about the last nine days of the guitar great’s life. Mackie will play the rocker in director Ol Parker’s movie Jimi, which has been in the works for several years.
Parker’s wife Thandie Newton will appear opposite Anthony and Noomi Rapace, the star of the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, will portray Hendrix’s ex-girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.
Anthony was attached to the project when Paul Greengrass was on board to direct, but resistance from the Hendrix estate torpedoed the film.
Outkast star Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000, will hit the big screen this summer (14) as the guitar legend in the biopic All Is By My Side.
