Arctic Monkeys make history with fifth U.K. number one album

British rockers Arctic Monkeys have scored their fifth number one in the U.K. with the second-fastest selling album of the year (13). AM debuted at the top with more than 157,000 units sold, second only to dance stars Daft Punk, who shifted 165,091 copies of Random Access Memories upon its release in May (13).
The Arctic Monkeys’ success has also made them the first independent act to rack up five consecutive number one records in British chart history.
Rockers London Grammar enter the albums countdown at two with If You Wait, while The 1975 slipped to three with their self-titled project.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry has continued to Roar atop the U.K. singles chart, fending off competition from OneRepublic, who climbed up to two with Counting Stars, just ahead of Burn by Ellie Goulding at three.
