Ariana Grande tops U.K. singles chart to lead race for Christmas No. 1

Ariana Grande’s track Thank U, Next leads the race to become the U.K.’s Christmas number one after topping Friday’s (14Dec18) singles chart.
Ariana’s smash hit has now remained at the summit for six weeks and if she makes it seven she’ll bag a coveted Christmas number one – and join the exalted company of acts including The Beatles, Queen, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and the Spice Girls.
Hot on her heels in second place is Ava Max with Sweet but Psycho, while Halsey’s Without Me is at three. Jumping up the chart from 10 to four is Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson’s collaboration Nothing Breaks Like a Heart, while an old festive favourite, Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You, completes the top five.
Topping the albums chart is the soundtrack to movie musical The Greatest Showman. A Christmas sales boost has propelled the collection of songs from the Hugh Jackman film – which came out in the U.K. last Christmas – to number one for a 22nd non-consecutive week.
George Ezra’s Staying at Tamara’s rises from four to two, while Michael Buble’s Love stays at three.
Climbing to four is Unchained Melodies, an album of songs by the late Roy Orbison reworked by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Rounding out the top five is Take That’s greatest hits record Odyssey.
