Armie Hammer weirded out by fan requests to autograph peaches

Armie Hammer finds it odd when fans ask him to autograph peaches following his performance in Call Me By Your Name.

The actor starred in Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 coming-of-age drama, which chronicles the romantic relationship between his character Oliver and 17-year-old Elio Perlman, as played by Timothee Chalamet.

A notable sex scene in the film involves a peach, and during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night (16Jul18), the star explained that fans of the movie are coming in droves to hand him pieces of fruit prior to his performances in the Broadway show Straight White Men.

“(The Call Me by Your Name fans) who come, you can spot them straight away,” he said. “And the biggest dead giveaway is that they will normally give me a peach. I get handed a peach or two almost every stage door. The first time someone handed me a peach I was like, ‘Oh thanks.’ And they go, ‘No, no, no… that’s not for you. Will you sign it for me?’ and I was like, ‘You want me to sign a peach?’ So I signed it and as I handed it back I went, ‘You’re not going to eat that are you? There’s Sharpie on it.'”

During the chat, Armie also shared that he is enjoying living in New York for the first time while appearing in the stage show as he was born in California and spent stints in Dallas, Texas and the Cayman Islands before kicking off his Hollywood career.

“I (used to not) like this place, it’s too busy and hectic,” the 31-year-old explained. “But now I’m here for this (play) and I love it. I do ride the subway, I’ve got a MetroCard in my pocket.”
