The director loved the theme song Springsteen wrote especially for his film, but couldn’t understand one line.
He says, “When we made The Wrestler I got to hang out a little bit with him and there’s a line in the song The Wrestler: ‘Like a one-legged dog walking down the street.’ When we were mixing the song Bruce wasn’t around and we were like, ‘What the hell’s a one-legged down walking down the street?’
“I could picture a three-legged dog or two-legged dog. So the night he won a Golden Globe for the song, I had a couple of drinks in me and I was sitting next to him and I was like, ‘With all humility and honour to who you are, what the hell is a one-legged dog walkin’ down the street?’
“He said, ‘Art often comes out of the mistakes and that’s when the poetry comes alive and you have to welcome them.'”
