Ashlee Simpson ‘so proud’ of sister Jessica after Natalie Portman feud

Ashlee Simpson was “so proud” of her sister Jessica when she stood up to Natalie Portman after the actress singled her out in a magazine interview about feminism.
The Oscar winner recently took aim at Jessica for wearing a bikini in a photoshoot to accompany a 1999 article, in which the singer talked about the importance of her virginity, explaining it left her “confused”.
“I remember being a teenager, and there was Jessica Simpson on the cover of a magazine saying ‘I’m a virgin’ while wearing a bikini, and I was confused. Like, I don’t know what this is trying to tell me as a woman, as a girl,” Natalie told USA Today.
Jessica then took to Twitter to tell Natalie she was “disappointed” by the remarks, adding: “I have made it my practice to not shame other women for their choices. In this era of Time’s Up and all the great work you have done for women, I encourage you to do the same.”
Following Jessica’s tweet, Natalie apologised, insisting she had never meant to shame anybody and shouldn’t have named anyone in the piece.
Now Ashlee, Jessica’s younger sister, has backed her sibling – telling E! News she was more than proud of the star for being so vocal in the debate.
“I mean, I was so proud of my sister,” Ashlee smiled. “She’s definitely a strong woman and she definitely stands up for herself. I definitely supported my sister. I was proud of her.”
Ashlee added that she was even more impressed with the way Jessica handled the situation considering the singer is currently pregnant with her third child.
The singer is gearing up for Christmas with husband Eric Johnson and their two children Maxwell, six, and Ace, five. Sharing an Instagram snap of herself in a festive reindeer onesie as the family enjoyed a snow day party, Jessica wrote: “Snow Day at the Johnson’s. Creating traditions and making memories!! I love the holidays!!!”
