Australia star David Gulpilil wins arts prize

Indigenous Australian actor David Gulpilil has been awarded a $48,181 (£31,085) cash prize for his contribution to the arts in his native country. The Australia star was named the winner of the Red Ochre prize at the National Indigenous Arts Awards, held at the Sydney Opera House on Monday (27May13).
Gulpilil, who has also appeared in 1986 comedy Crocodile Dundee and 2002’s Rabbit-Proof Fence, was honoured for his 40-year career, which has included acting, dancing and painting.
The actor, who claims to be broke and homeless, insists the cash prize will help him fund his simple existence living in the remote Australian outback.
