Ava DuVernay lands Peabody Award for 13th documentary

Director Ava Duvernay’s criminal justice film 13Th and the Oscar-winning O.j.: Made In America have been named among the documentary honorees for the 2016 Peabody Awards.

12 projects were selected for recognition in the documentary category, with Audrie & Daisy, Zero Days, 4.1 Miles, Hip-Hop Evolution, and HBO film MAVIS!, chronicling the life of R&B and gospel star Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers, also named winners.

The top picks in the entertainment fields will be unveiled on Thursday (20Apr17), while the radio/podcast winners will follow on 24 April (17).

The prizes will be presented at a New York ceremony on 20 May (17), when actress Rashida Jones will host.

The Peabody Awards are organized by officials at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, and celebrate excellence in radio and TV.
