Bajan musician George Jones needs kidney transplant

Bajan musician George Jones is searching for a kidney donor in a bid to end his gruelling dialysis treatment. The former Square One keyboardist is on the list for a transplant, but insists a living donor would “speed up the process”.
Jones, who is a colon cancer survivor, tells the Barbados Daily Nation, “It is quite a task, and I like to say that I am standing at the foot of Mount Everest. I am not intimidated but like everything (else) I proceed in faith.
“I am now in the process of being prepared for a kidney transplant. I am registered on a list, but that depends on somebody, unfortunately, passing away. If I could find a living donor, that would speed up the process. Once you find that person, you could be ready to move, and to be ready to move, you have to have the finances in place.”
Several of his musician friends have organised a benefit concert in New York for September (13) to raise money to help pay for Jones’ medical costs, and he is also planning to open bank accounts in Barbados and the Cayman Islands, as well as the U.S., so fans can make donations.
He adds, “A number of people are interested in making a contribution, so you just (have to) give them a facility to do it.”
