Ballerina Maya Plisetskaya dies

Russian ballet great MAYA PLISETSKAYA has died, aged 89.
Plisetskaya, who was considered one of Russia’s most iconic dancers, died in Munich, Germany on Saturday (02May15) after suffering a heart attack.
She began practising ballet at the age of nine, and joined the Bolshoi Ballet company in Moscow, Russia aged 18 in 1943. She enjoyed starring roles in Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Carmen before she left aged 65 in 1990 amid disputes with the company’s director.
She moved to Munich with her composer husband Rodion Shchedrin and become a choreographer but returned to the Bolshoi Theatre’s stage for a string of gala performances.
