Bananarama: ‘Motherhood stopped us going off the rails’

Bananarama has credited having children for keeping them away from drugs.
Bandmembers Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward reflected on their early years during an interview with Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper. And opening up about their reputation for liking a drink or two, Keren, 58, insisted alcohol was as far as it went when it came to group’s partying ways.
“Drugs, by the way, were never the Bananarama party fuel of choice,” the Cruel Summer hitmaker shared. “We were boozers, really. I had a child early on in our career and drugs are not what you want in your life in that situation.”
Sara, 57, joked the duo were partial to “the odd vodka and tonic”, and mother-of-one Keren went on to admit raising a newborn didn’t stop her partying altogether, adding: “I would go clubbing, then come home and make breakfast for the baby.
“That couldn’t have happened if I was off my face,” she laughed. “I was very aware as a young mum that I had to be there and not go off the rails.”
Earlier this year (19), Bananarama released new record In Stereo, which scored them their first U.K. top 30 album in 32 years.
